The I-66 “Outside the Beltway” project is a public-private partnership transportation project in Fairfax, Virginia that will transform Interstate 66 into a multimodal corridor. The project will include 22.5 miles of new tolled express lanes alongside three regular lanes from I-495 to University Boulevard in Gainesville, new and improved bus service and transit routes, new and expanded park and ride lots providing convenient access to the express lanes and more than 4,000 new park and ride spaces, and interchange improvements to enhance safety and reduce congestion, including auxiliary lanes between interchanges. Bowman Consulting is currently performing surveying services DTM verification surveys covering the project corridors, setting and controlling aerial LiDAR targets, flying and capturing new LiDAR and orthophoto mosaic data on the entire corridor, and processing a new bare earth DTM. Bowman is also setting and controlling mobile LiDAR targets and performing mobile LiDAR data collection on about 60 miles of highway, ramp and roadway corridor, processing said data, preparing a new DTM on the hard highway and roadway surfaces and replacing the hard-surface DTM for the VDOT survey with the mobile LiDAR surface. Additionally, Bowman is performing ground surveys, including stream valley cross-sections for hydraulic analysis, obscured topography, WMATA surveys, 3D scanning of specific bridges, with an option to build 3D models, and on-call surveying assistance.
