Bowman Consulting was contracted to perform a baseline survey on the overall building superstructure of the National Museum of African American History & Culture prior to the installation of a new building façade, for the purposes of confirming the anticipated behavior of the structure. This survey also served to establish control points for comparison to post façade installation. Bowman’s laser scanning team provided a superstructure steel survey to document the existing conditions and establish site control. The steel structure was measured by using a combination of laser scan data captured by a “time of flight” scanner, and QC checks on roughly 50% of the discrete using conven-tional survey measurement techniques with “high accuracy” equipment. Laser scan data was then collected to provide for an overall site conditions snapshot.
