FBI Training Center, Modular Building

The FBI Academy is located on the United States Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Virginia. The facility, which opened in the summer of 1972, is situated on 385 wooded acres, providing a secure, private, and safe environment for FBI training and operations.

Bowman Consulting was retained to provide design and construction services for a new modular building on the campus. The layout of the new facility and its associated parking will meet the requirements for Anti-Terrorism / Force Protection stand-off distances. The project will begin with the demolition of an existing temporary building, a wood deck, and a fenced-in dining area. Once the site is cleared, construction of the new modular building can begin.

Bowman Consulting will provide surveying and civil engineering services, including a field topographic/as-built survey and a physical improvements locations survey using National Map Accuracy Standards. Engineering services will include a fire flow test to determine pressures and flow demand responses for the existing 8-inch watermain adjacent to the project site. In addition, a final site plan will be prepared and submitted to DCR and Quantico for review and approval, and will include a site grading and utility plan, erosion and sediment control notes and details, and stormwater management calculations.

In accordance with Commonwealth of Virginia regulations, any construction activity that disturbs more than one acre of land, must apply for and obtain a permit for stormwater discharge under the VSMP program. Bowman Consulting will prepare and submit the registration / application documents to the Commonwealth of Virginia DCR, and will also prepare the required Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) which is necessary to have on the construction site.
