Chatham Square

Located on the site of this Historic “Berg” community, the project required a first-class team of consultants to meet the design challenges and tight time constraints. Bowman Consulting was approached with a vision for an innovative mixed-income residential complex in the heart of old town Alexandria, and we provided the comprehensive services needed to realize that vision. Our involvement included participating in the land purchase contract negotiations, developing the conceptual land use plan, preparing detailed construction drawings and obtaining a myriad of permits and approvals. In 2006, Chatham Square was named Builder Magazine’s “Project of the Year.”
Chatham Square includes over 150 homes, two-thirds are luxury town homes and the balance are affordable apartments — an excellent example of simultaneously serving the market and the community. This demanding project required that we collaborate closely with numerous stakeholders including the city government, other consultants and designers, the developer and the community. The result is an attractive and optimum combination of cost-effectiveness, practicality, and livability.
